Exhaust smell in the cab, a louder engine, a ticking or puffing sound under load, soot around a joint, or a rattle under the truck. Any of these is worth a look.
It is not a good idea, especially if you can smell fumes in the cab. Exhaust gas in the cab is a health risk for the driver. Get it checked as soon as you can.
